South India is combination of different states namely Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, and also the union territories of Lakshadweep and Pondicherry. South India is bounded by the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal in the west, south and east respectively.It is rich geographically with diverse topographical features such as the two mountain ranges :the Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats and a plateau heartland. From October to March the temperature drops down and in some region it can fall down to 10 degree Celsius. A very extreme example of temperature that from March to June it can shoot over 40 Degree Celsius. But the costal region in the south maintains a pleasant temperature from 20 to 35 but with much humid. Some of the most important and protected areas of India are in South India which includes the Periyar National Park Tiger Reserves, Srisailam Tiger Reserve etc. South India is rich with several national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and forest reserves.

Backwaters like the Pulicut Lake in Andhra Pradesh, Pitchavarum in Tamil Nadu and the famed backwaters of Kerala formed by the Vembanad Lake, the Ashtamudi Lake and the Kayamkulam Lake are the protected ecological sites.
