WHITE WATER RIVER RAFTING IN LADAKH

River rafting in Ladakh takes you through its picturesque landscape, consisting of deep canyons, soaring snow-covered peaks, hilltop monasteries, hillside villages, and unique wildlife. The Indus River locally known as “Singee Khababs” meaning from the loins mouth. India takes its name from it the British used the name 'India' for the entire subcontinent based on the appellation of this river

It is one of the longest river and the third largest in India. The ultimate source of the Indus is in Tibet; it begins at the confluence of the Sengge and Gar rivers that drain the Nganglong Kangri and Gangdise Shan mountain ranges. The Indus then flows northwest through Ladakh-Baltistan into Gilgit, just south of the Karakoram range.

FROM UPSHI TO KARU: Mostly you encounter I to II grade of rapids but at some points you hit the IIIrd too. It is comparatively bit longer then the Phey to Nimo stretch. The starting point Ushi on the Leh –Manali highway is 90 Kms from Leh. One has the beautiful view of snow capped mountains and monasteries at the hill tops.

FROM KARU TO SPITUK: Kharu wich is 45 Kms off the Leh – Manali Highway is the starting point of this trip. This is also a scenic float with less rapids and one can enjoy the beautiful sights of the Stok Kangri and monasteries and villages afar.

FROM PHEY TO NIMO: One of the most popular amongst the short river rafting,  this one gives the thrill and twist of a III grade of rapid at places. It starts from Phey village which is 12 Kms from Leh and passes through the rugged mountains and visible trek routes to end up in Nimo villages near the confluence of Indus and Zanskar river.

FROM PHEY TO SASPOL: This is more of a scenic float This rafting trip starts from Phey off the Leh to Srinagar highway and ends at the beautiful village of Saspol. All the way you enjoy the continuously changing terrain and landscape and the tiny villages at the river bank.

FROM SASPOL TO KHLTSEY: On of the most thrilling stretch of the river Indus where you may hit the rapid of III and more. All way along small and large rapids are continuously encounter this river.

WHITE WATER RIVER RAFTING OVER THE ZANSKAR RIVER
The Zanksar river froms from two major sources, the first known as the Doda has its source near the Pensi-la (4,400 metres), which flows towards Padum. The second branch is formed by two main tributaries known as Kargyag river, with its source near the Shingo-La, and Tsarap river, with its source near the Baralacha-La. These two rivers unite below the village of Purne to form the Lungnak river . The Lungnak river then flows north-westwards along a narrow gorge towards Zanskar's central valley where it unites with the Doda river to form the Zanskar river.The Zanskar river then takes a north-eastern course until it joins the Indus in Ladakh before Nimo. 

This Expedition can be done in 8 days where 3 days required to reach the put-up point at Remala in Zanksar. It involves adventurous Jeep Safari drive from Leh to Kargil, Kargil to Rangdum and to Remala over the high pass of Pensi La which is 14,500 ft.

The actual river rafting is of 4 tough and thrilling days; covering about 155 Kms of running and constantly hitting II to III rapids and IV at many points. It also passes through the famous trek route of the Markha valley.  Nights are spent under the canvas, a whole expedition and camping team follows. A rest day is recommended at Nyerak village. This tour can only be booked for groups well in advance.
