We present you with some of the best tours to Ladakh in this heading: A cultural tour to Ladakh can be done anywhere from May to October. On the left menu panel are listed some of our recommended tours that are trailer made as per our research and experience with the European tourist and their preference. These itineraries are not meant for the domestic tourists unless and until they have a deep sense of cultural interest and passion for the same.
These itineraries are very unique of Deer Tour Services Pvt. Ltd., and can further be customized according to timings, preference of the individual travelers or groups. For eg. Last time we had a group of teachers traveling to Ladakh from Europe we made sure that they visit some of the School in remote area, interact with teachers and the students which took only few hours of time from their usual itinerary and the tour was much memorable and amazing!!
These itineraries involves village walks, perhaps a participation in a village gathering, house visit for direct interact with locals, a meeting with special person like the medicine man Amchi, a High lama or a scholar for an hour or two. In short: all activities are such planned yet not planned at all that our clients are the participant but not the spectator of this stage.
So where do we take you for this?
Ladakh is the biggest district of India area-wise, 59,000 square kilometers having one of the lowest population densities in the world: 2 inhabitants per kilometer, 59,000 square kilometers of rocky desert, apparently inhospitable mountains, a world of bewitching silence, framed in a parallel fashion by two of the most imposing mountain ranges, the Karakoram to the North, the Himalayas to the South.
For our tours we have placed the spots- direction wise, thus three main directions can be considered.
- Leh – Manali Road: On this route main villages that falls are Shey, Thiksey Hemis, Stakna, Matho, Stok. Sabu, Chemrey, Sakti, Korzok famous for the high altitude lake Tso moriri and the entire Changthang range famous for the nomadic people, the Pangong high altitude lake and being the last frontier of India bordering China.
- Leh-Nubra Road: This route takes one to another last frontiers of Ladakh over the highest motorable road of the world at an altitude of 18380 fts to Nubra valley. Nubra valley is bordered with Pakistan and famous for the Siachen glacier; one of the worlds highest battlefield. The valley is famous for its ancient Buddhist monasteries, sand-dunes and being the ancient silk route and its Bactrian camels.
- Leh-Srinagar Road: This is route also known as the lower Indus valley is most frequented. The main village that falls on and off are Spituk, Basgo, Saspol, Lamayuru, Mulbekh. Phyang, Liker, Rizong, Hemis Shukpachan, Temisgam, Kargil and Drass etc. But the main being of Zanskar valley, still one of the remotest villages of Ladakh.
There are 34 ancient monasteries in Ladakh almost all of them on a hill top except the Alchi monastery. Most of the monasteries have an annual festival, famous for the Mask Dance “Chamms” Please check our section Ladakh/festival tours in Ladakh.
We take Leh town as the pivotal for all these tours. All these areas are not more then a maximum of 300 kms drive range, but do consider the fact that the driving time may be reduced to 15 to 25 kms per hour due to the high mountain roads. Most of the routes are paved but not really to the villages yet. |
